Montevideo is one of the safest tourist destinations in South-America,
and locals are known for their politeness and courtesy. The neighborhood of the event,
Pocitos-Punta Carretas, is a fashionable seaside neighborhood having all 
the amenities: shopping malls, movie theaters, restaurants and bars.

Arriving in Montevideo

Montevideo is accessible from all major destinations. A taxi from the airport to the place of the event costs around U$S50. The other way round costs around U$S30. There are cheaper options, such as vans, costing around U$S20, and there is even a local bus, costing less than U$S2. A taxi drive takes 20 min. to Pocitos, and the bus drive aproximately 45 min.

Visa Information

Citizens of some countries need a visa to visit Uruguay. You may find a list here. If you need a visa please contact the organization as soon a possible at focm14@gmail.com since the procedure takes some time.

When contacting the organization, please send your citizenship, complete title, affiliation and address, and specify the consulate where you are going to submit your application. Here is the link to the Uruguayan consulates in the world.

If you plan to travel via Buenos Aires and have to leave the transit area of Ezeiza international airport (for instance to go to the domestic airport Aeroparque to catch your connection), you may need a visa:

There is a reciprocity fee for some countries which do not need a visa: for citizens from Australia, Canada and USA, that has to be payed online prior traveling:

The current fee is

  • Australia: USD 100.- (multiple entries within 1 year)
  • Canada: USD 75.- (one entry) o U$D 150.- (multiple entries within the next 5 years)
  • USA: USD 160.- (multiple entries within the next 10 years)

If you plan to travel via Brazil and will leave the transit area or have a transit connexion of more than 7 hours, you may need a visa. Please read here for more details.

If you plan to travel through Chile and will leave the transit area of the airport, you may need a visa (visit here for details). There is a reciprocity fee for some countries which do not need a visa: for citizens from Australia, Canada and Mexico, that has to be payed upon arrival:

Bus Number DM1 goes from Carrasco International Airport to Punta Carretas. This link contains its timetable.

The airport stop is between "ZONAMERICA" and "GEANT".
