Arriving to Montevideo by plane

Montevideo's international airport, Aeropuerto Internacional de Carrasco , is 20km (12.4mi) east of the city. Besides the usual international carriers, commuter airlines also provide services to Argentina. The internet-based Gol Airlines has cheap flights to Porto Alegre, Brazil.

From Montevideo airport to center

To reach the center, you can choose among the following options:

By bus

CUTCSA buses are the cheapest way to get to center. This public bus departs approx. every 15 minutes in front of the airport. You must buy your ticket on board (15.5 Uruguayan pesos, about U$S 0.7). Please note that the bus only takes Uruguayan pesos, although you will be able to change money in the airport ("Bureau de Change" open all day, until approx. 10pm). The trip takes 55 minutes. The bus terminal is at the Rio Branco bus terminal in Montevideo.

COPSA buses stop by the airport on their way to the center, approximately one every half hour. This is a slightly faster option but costs a little more (approx. 40 pesos, about U$S 2). The ticket can be bought in advance at COPSA offices in the airport (where you can also check the timetable). The bus stops at the Tres Cruces bus terminal in Montevideo.

COT buses also stop by the airport on their way to the center. This is the fastest option by bus, but also more expensive (approx. 65 pesos, about U$S 3). The ticket can be bought in advance at COT offices in the airport (where you can also check the timetable). The bus stops at the Tres Cruces bus terminal in Montevideo.

By taxi or remise

If you decide to take a taxi, there is a taxi rank right outside the airport. A taxi to the center costs approximately U$S 25, although it is wise to arrange the price beforehand. You can pay in dollars as well as Uruguayan pesos. Although the taxi service is fairly efficient in Uruguay and you don't have the safety problems you have in, say, Buenos Aires, taxi drivers do drive quite fast, so be prepared!

By car

If you prefer you can rent a car at the airport. It will probably cost you more than a taxi.

By private transfer

You can also arrange for a private transfer to your hotel.

Transport from International Airport to NH Columbia

There is a special bus service from Carrasco International Airport to the city center. The route of AeroBus passes near but not excatly by NH, but you can ask the driver to let you get off in front of the hotel. The ticket costs around 6.00 USD.

Going from Montevideo to Punta del Este

By bus

This is the chepest and probably the most efficient way to get to Punta del Este. Buses depart from Tres Cruces terminal, the ticket costs 250 pesos approx 12 and the journey last 2 hours. You can check timetables at the Tres Cruces website

By plane

There are daily flights to Buenos Aires, plus summer schedules to São Paulo and other Brazilian destinations. Aerolíneas Argentinas, in the Edificio Santos Dumont, flies to Buenos Aires frequently, as does LAPA on Fridays and Sundays.
