C 1 stability of endomorphisms on two-dimensional manifolds.

The authors present necessary and sufficient conditions for the C 1 stability of endomorphisms. In particular, the results are applied in the setting of compact oriented two-dimensional manifolds. They develop a first example in two dimensions for such a kind of C 1 stable map, a fact already known for higher dimensions. The paper is very clear, instructive and well written.
